2010 Titan Legacy Team Claims Silver at Alberta Champions Cup
The 2010 Titan Hockey Academy Legacy team turned heads at the Alberta Champions Cup in Calgary from April 25-27, earning a hard-fought silver medal in a thrilling tournament that showcased their speed, skill, and attention to detail.
Split between Max Bell Arena and Southland’s Ed Whalen Arena, the tournament featured a deep field of spring talent from across Western Canada. The Legacy team went 3-1 in round-robin play, capping their group stage with a wild 7-6 win over Roar Academy—a game full of intensity and momentum swings that ultimately went the Titans' way.
From there, the team rolled into the playoffs with confidence, delivering a strong 5-2 semifinal win over the Thundercats. The championship game against the NEBC Chill came down to the wire, with the Legacy squad narrowly falling 3-2 in a game defined by special teams and a handful of key penalties.
Despite the heartbreaking loss in the final, the silver medal was a major achievement for a group that’s still early in its spring season. “The gold medal game was close and intense—we learned some important lessons,” said Head Coach Robert Tyszkiewicz. “A few penalties might have been the difference, but I’m proud of how our group competed and carried themselves all weekend.”
Goaltenders Daniel Nielsen and Graeson Popp shared the crease duties and were solid throughout the tournament, making key saves in high-pressure moments. While the team didn’t rely on any one individual to carry the load, their strong passing, smart breakouts, and committed backchecking were standout traits that defined their style of play.
The silver finish is the first of two consecutive medals for the 2010 Legacy team, who followed up with a bronze win at the HDC Western Super Summit just two weeks later.
